Summary: The present invention relates to a surface modification method for CF which can improve the interfacial shear strength (IFSS) of CF with PP and that of CF with PP modified with compatibilizers. The carbon fibers are surface functionalized and then coated with pre-functionalized carbon nanotubes (CNTs) using ultrasonic assisted electrophoretic deposition technique. The chemical interactions and mechanical anchoring of the CF with base polymers aided by the coated CNTs cumulatively supported in enhancing the interfacial adhesion and improved the IFSS values.
